#1) Move Now!
Summer and fall are busy seasons for everyone! This is especially true for movers in Buffalo, NY. During these peak moving seasons, we are busy moving as many families and businesses as possible and are often at capacity, and wait times can get lengthy. If you are able to move now – we encourage you to do so! Moving during non-peak times allows our team to give you the best possible price and, in some cases, help you move immediately.
#2) Utilize Free Packing Materials
You know all those towels in your cabinet? And what about the sock that lost its match a few months ago? Well – they can find a new purpose during your move! By using soft, clean towels, socks, and shirts, you can pack your television, computer monitor, and other fragile items for a safe transit.
Bonus Tip: Keep large to medium size boxes that your online orders ship in. Cardboard can be a big money sink so any extra boxes you can get your hands on goes a long way. Ask neighbors and family to save any they may come across for you as well.
#3) Consider Enlisting Family and Friends
If you’re fortunate enough to have family and friends who live close enough and can afford to give you the time, take advantage. They are a great resource to move small items and boxes, leaving the heavy, fragile, or challenging items for the professionals. You’d be surprised how much easier moving can be by just adding two extra sets of hands.
If you choose to enlist friends and family, be mindful of who you ask. If your brother works at a hospital, maybe don’t guilt him into helping you move during a pandemic. Be safe and treat your helpers to takeout after the move is done.
#4) Get Rid of the Clutter
Moving is a great opportunity to finally follow through on that spring cleaning you’ve put off for the past three years. Take a deep breath, open that overstuffed closet and sift through the junk. Maybe you don’t need to pack that VHS box set? Instead of hauling it with you, consider donating it to a local Buffalo charity or selling it on Facebook Marketplace. You’ll save time on both ends of the move by not packing junk that you’ll then need to unpack only to stuff into a new closet. Keep the things that you really need, use, and love.
#5) Get Multiple Quotes
We all get to a point in our lives where we can’t fit all of our belongings into a mid-sized hatchback. You now own a dining room table and sectional couch! When you reach this point, you will want to make sure the Buffalo moving company you choose can handle the job. So when you call for a quote, you’ll want to consider a few things beforehand. Are you moving anything that is significantly heavy like a large safe or an appliance? Are you moving from a two-bedroom apartment, but have a third bedroom worth of stuff in the basement? Knowing these things beforehand and taking an accurate assessment of your belongings will help make sure you get an accurate quote. And, as always, our movers are always happy to give a fast, free estimate so you can plan accordingly.
